Description
This Teddy Bear Girl always makes me happy just by looking at her. I have always called her Miss Greta or Fräulein Greta, but she really doesn’t come with any official name as to my knowledge. I bought her from the Swedish retailer Fina Dockan, Stockholm in the early 2000s, but according to the shop-owner, she was made sometime as early as during the late 1980s or 1990s.
Miss G. has two in-sewn labels attached to her left arm. On one it says “Kikeriki”, on the other “Made in Germany”. After having searched the web for information about this bear and Kikeriki in particular, I have finally found that it seems to have been the predecessor to German toy manufacturer Sigikid. The company’s full name was Kikeriki Bruno Teuschers Nachfolger GmbH, and on Implisense (a website dedicated to company profiles, etc.), I read that this was the historical name of Sigikid. I also recall that the shop-owner mentioned Sigikid in connection to this darling bear. I have found photos of two other Kikeriki / Sigikid teddy bears also from the late 80s/90s, and these are also said to be very rare. In addition to those two bears I came across a teddy bear boy, who resembles Miss Greta in design. The latter is attributed to German teddy bear artist Gisela Hofmann and Sigikid. Could Ms Greta be a Gisela Hofmann creation? Possibly. (In the end of this article you will find three photos of the only teddy bears I have found on the internet, that bear resemblance to Miss Greta. The first two are introduced as KIKERIKI SIGIKID, Teddy Bear Couple from the 1980s, and are without doubt related to our Miss Greta, and the other bear, called Ben, is described as made by Gisela Hofmann / Sigikid. He looks rather familiar too.)
Miss G. is made of dark blond mohair of finest quality. She has felted paw pads in a darker brown colour, a black hand-stitched nose and brown glass eyes with black pupils. She wears a lovely checked cotton dress with lace details and a red bow. Underneath she wears white cotton panties. Miss G. is fully jointed and has flat foot pads. She wears red sandals made of felt, and they make it even easier for her to stand up. She also has a lovely straw hat with flowers. Miss G. measures approx. 50cm / 20″.
Miss Greta is such a little Missy. I see in her a rather precocious, quite assertive and a bit prudent little girl… who always knows best, and likes to tell you about it. I think she is gorgeous!
This lovely teddy bear has been living in a non-smoking environment. She is now looking for a new loving home.
Please note that this is a collector’s item.
