Richard Steiff designed the very first jointed Teddy bear in 1902, a bear gifted with movement that would take the world by storm. Born in 1902 “the bear” made his public debut at the very first opportunity – the International Toy Trade Fair in Leipzig in 1903. From that moment forth the dream of Richard Steiff became reality. The year 2003 marks 100 years since Richard’s loveable legend, the Teddy bear, took his very first steps forward to what was to become one of the most remarkable journeys in history. A brand new child’s toy was launched, a toy that has survived over 100 years, a toy that is now hailed the world’s most popular and best-loved of all among children and adults alike. As a tribute to this memorable event in the history of the Teddy bear, Steiff presented in 2003, to UK collectors, a bear that symbolizes the gift Richard Steiff gave to the children, a wonderful playful Teddy bear.
The Exhibition Bears fine soft white mohair is complimented perfectly by his traditional colourful mohair ball toy. He has brown glass eyes, a dark brown stitched nose, brown claws, and beige felted paws. Each Teddy bear is distinguished by a white, consecutively numbered ear tag and a gold-plated “Button in Ear”.
The bear measures 21 cm / 8″ and comes in perfect condition with certificate and original box. He has been living in a non-smoking environment with one collector only, and is now looking for a new loving home.
